Class Objectives
The program focus is to provide an environment that encourages each child’s emotional, physical, spiritual, intellectual and social growth. Through happy experiences each student builds a positive attitude towards self, school and learning. Our preschool strives to carry out the mission of Oxford United Methodist Church by striving to “love God, love people and faithfully minister to human and spiritual needs in our community and beyond.”
Our four major goals for all students are increased self-esteem, expression of creativity, language development, and building on social skills. The individual goals and how we accomplish them are listed below:

Objectives for two-year-olds
Our program for two-year-olds provides a safe and loving environment in which children can learn through play. When playing, children will:
- Discover their strengths
- Explore new interests
- Learn to cope with new situations
- Learn to get along with others
- Learn to focus attention
- Test ideas through experimentation
Objectives for three-year-olds
The accomplishments of three-year-olds are many and amazing. Growth in language, social and motor skills during this year is phenomenal! By the end of the school year we strive to see good growth in:
- Exhibiting self-confidence and self control
- Cooperating, sharing, turn taking
- Willingness to try new things
- Following rules to simple games
- Language and expression
- Independence
- Enjoyment of different art media
- Motor Skills, including: pencil and crayon grip and control, gluing, cutting on lines with scissors, simple dances and finger plays
- Conceptual Skills, including: colors, shapes, counting order, sizes and sequencing, likes and differences, capital letters and their sounds
Objectives for four-year-olds
This class is designed to build on previous learning experiences and prepare each child for kindergarten in a broad way. Our basic goal is to have an atmosphere of caring and sharing among classmates. By the end of the school year we hope to see good growth in:
- Independence and self-confidence
- Sharing responsibilities and working as a team
- Being good leaders and followers
- Attentive listening and increased attention span
- Expanding vocabulary and clear speech
- Motor Skills, including: pencil and crayon grip and control, cutting on lines with scissors, painting, gluing and pasting, modeling and printing, writing first and last names
- Conceptual Skills, including: recognizing upper and lower case letters and their sounds, numbers 1-20, counting order, sequencing, color words, left and right, opposites, greater and lesser
